I always first think of Marguerite Henry, the author best known for Misty of Chincoteague. I never really liked horses, but I read as many of her books as I could, because my dad loved her when he was young, and I wanted to be like him. :) I always loved her name--and I really did enjoy King of the Wind. Great book, that.

Marguerite strikes me as a name that doesn't come with baggage. It's in a class with Rosemary, except without any bubblegum pop tunes to go with it. It could be an old woman, yes, but if you tilt your head a bit, it's very clear that Marguerite still has enough charm for mainstream American culture to handle.

I like Marguerite Rose, even though I'm not fond of Rose at all. It just sounds right, for some reason. Marguerite Florence, Marguerite Nancy, Marguerite Laura, Margeurite Clara, Marguerite Paula, or Marguerite Sara would all work nicely, too. A two-syllable name (preferably ending in A) with the stress on the first syllable helps to balance out Marguerite's lengthiness.
