Help[Opinions] Liza
I have had this name stuck in my head for a couple of days. I really love it! I just can't consider it right now because my brother and his wife like it for their baby on the way. Anyways, I want to know what you think of it, in case they don't use it maybe I would some day. Do you think it is too short or nicknameish? Just give me your thoughts on it, good or bad!

It's definitely too nickname-ish. I really don't like it even as a nickname for Eliza/Elizabeth.

I think Liza is a great name, whether as a nickname or a full name. (It helps, I suppose, that I like Liza Minelli, hee. Arthur is one of my favourite movies.) I knew a Liza who was probably the loudest, most opinionated creature to walk the planet--but in a good way, if you know what I mean.
Since I really don't like the name Elizabeth (and like even less Elisabeth), I'd recommend Liza alone. There's much less chance that people will try to call her Liz, and personally, I think Liza is a great deal more interesting than Elizabeth. Much spunkier--but with the benefit of a history long enough to be taken seriously.

Since I really don't like the name Elizabeth (and like even less Elisabeth), I'd recommend Liza alone. I love it, obviously. I do use it as a nn for Elizabeth, but its great on its own. I think it might get a tad popular, because I've seen it on a few babies lately. Its cute, its very spunky, etc, etc.

I don't think (anymore) that it needs to be a nn for Elizabeth I think it can stand on it's own better
But I always think of Liza Minelli (sp?) which is not so good

My favourite names are Henry Andersen, Isaac Atticus, Miller Gabriel, Freya Jasmine, Lily Philomel, Lyra Iris and Lark Beatrice

I only see it as a nickname for Eliza. I do find it a tad nickname-y.
And, if they use the name, it doesn't mean you can't. No one and nothing should stop you from using a name you like. I seem to be the only person who doesn't think it's wrong to use a name that another family member has used for their child, etc.

If I were to even think about using a name that they had used, or was close to one they had used, WWII would start. Names are personal, and name stealing is hurtful. They chose that name for their child, its a name they love, and they want it to be unique, at least in their own family.

Yes, I have two sisters. I do not talk about them (nor the rest of my family, in detail, for that matter) since my family relationships are not as pleasant as I would like them to be, so that is probably why you didn't know I did. :::sigh:::
If I wanted to use the name of one of my two sister's children, then I would, and I'm sorry, but nothing they could say or do would stop me from using the name, and if they planned on using one of the names I like, then let them. The name isn't copyrighted to anyone. It's not that I don't care about how they'd feel if I used the name, but names are free game, and anyone can use them. I have two cousins who have the same name, which both of my Aunt's gave them, and guess what - they were OK with it, because they both loved the names! My Aunts still talk to one another, and my two cousins aren't jealous of one another or anything.
I think that people make this too big of a deal, or perhaps I just can't wrap my brain around this topic, I guess.

Well our family is very close knit and we're around each other all the time! It'd just be too confusing to have a cousin with the same name, i'd just not use it for sanity's sake! There are tons of other names I like! It's different if i'm not close to the family member. I happen to have 2 cousins, one named Samuel and one named Isaiah and I love the names and would consider using them one day even though we are related, but not that close. But thanks for the comments anyway!

I don't think it's too short or nnish but it doesn't sound aesthetically pleasing to me either.
