No, it's notIt's a phonetic English respelling of Mariska, which is a pet form of Mária, the Hungarian form of Maria. In Hungarian, S is pronounced as "sh", hence Marishka in English.I still prefer Mariska though, since it looks less "sloppy" to me. Jayne Mansfield had a daughter named Mariska by her Hungarian-born husband Miklós "Mickey" Hargitay; Mariska Hargitay is now famous in her own right as Detective Olivia Benson on Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.
