I like the name. My only association with it prior to HP was from a character in Agatha Christie. I always thought it was interesting in print, but I didn't know how to pronounce it until HP.
I think it's a nice name, and I'm glad it's becoming more familiar.

It was lovely, but then spoiled by Harry Potter. It also reminds me of the extremely good actress Hermione Norris, though :-)_____________________________________________________________________"My universe is laced around your wrist; I am the bracelet you sport."Elinor

I don't like it, although I love the Harry Potter character. The name outside of the HP series sounds old croney and witchey to me.

I loved the name Hermione long before the Harry Potter books :)
I have seen Hermione becoming more popular in the birth announcements where I live but it is still rather unusual I think it could maybe become more popular when the generation that is growing up with the books start having children

Love it, love it, love it.I know some won't like it because they think it is too connected to Harry Potter. I like the fact that the series has brought names back to the attention of a new generation of name lovers. I used to watch old movies growing up and two British actresses were named Hermione Gingold and Hermione Baddely. (sp?) That is where I first heard the name. Then as I grew older I learned about the Shakespeare character. I never thought Americans would know how to pronounce the name, let alone ever even see it in print. So I'm grateful HP for bringing it back.

You prompted me to look up the pronounciation and lo and behold, I was part of the mis-pronouncing masses. Now I know.

Hermione existed before Harry PotterIs it in one of Shakespeare's plays. And I like the British actress Hermione Morris (Cold Feet, Wire in the Blood). But then I love old and unusual names.

David Bowie used it, too. However, Hermione is currently completely tied to Harry Potter. A Winter's Tale simply isn't as insanely well-known as Macbeth or Romeo and Juliet. Even if it's got a long and wonderful history (which it does), the name starts and ends with JK Rowling for the average American.Personally, I think the name would be nice as a middle name. As a first name, it's a bit too much--and supposing poor little Hermione doesn't like Harry Potter so well as this generation of children does? I almost always think of the song "Letter to Hermione" before I think of Hermione Granger, so the name also has some unpleasant connotations to me.On the whole, I like Hermine, Herminia, and Hermia a bit better--but I know that they probably wouldn't fly so well in modern society.Array

I don't care for it. I think it just sounds awful - very ugly sounding to me. I don't see the appeal in it, besides the popularity of Harry Potter.

OK, any kid named Hermione is going to be associated with Harry Potter for the rest of her life. Also, it's not a name people can pronounce unless they've seen or heard it before.

How is it pronounced? I think finally saw part of one of the movies and thought "Really, thats how its pronounced?" But now I don't remember.
