Where is CheFruitBat when we really need him? Aristides was a 2nd century Greek saint, and "Aristide" is the French version of his name.
I don't know the meaning, but it's usually associated by most people with Jean Bertrand Aristide, the former (and future) Haitian president that won so many of our boys in camo an extended Caribbean vacation. (And he's one of the GOOD guys down there...)

You rang?
Aristides is indeed an (ancient) Greek name which is still quite popular in my neck of the woods. It is derived from the word "ariston", meaning "excellent" or "optimum". Related modern-use words include "Aristocracy" ("rule of the best") and "Aristocats" ("supreme animated felines").

Sorry, but I really, really HATE it!! It sounds so old fashioned, I would hate to saddle my child with a name like that.

I don't know what it means, but someone else might. The name
Aristide is a little less than OK. But when you shorten it to
"Aristie" or "Risty" Then I like the name!
