[Facts] What is the meaning of the name Höskuld
Hello!I live in Ukraine and have a brother whose name is Askold. It was the name of the Kiev king (860-862 AC), who probably was from North (the first kings of Kieven Uktaine were vikings). So, the origin of the name Askold is Scandinavian. Probably, it was derived from Scandinavian name Hoskuld (Höskuld, Höskuldr), which is still used in Iceland. So, what's the meaning of the name Höskuld, and so the origin of the name Askold?

Privyet Victor!Askold is an Old German name meaning: "ash(-tree/-spear)" + "ruler".
Höskuldr is an Old Norse name meaning: "grey" + "hair, parting".
The modern Icelandic form of Höskuldr is Höskuldur.Regards, Satu
