How do you pronounce the name Amaya?

In correct Japanese, it's ah-MAH-yuh. I say it the same way, or like uh-MYE-uh. It's a beautiful name.

I would say it's pronounced a-ma-ya, as a general rule for Japanese it is even stress on each syllable.

I've only ever heard it as a-MIE-a, or uh-MYE-uh if that makes more sense to you. Sounds like the name Maia with an A in front. It was the surname of my 3rd & 4th grade art teacher.

Looking at the replies, I'll seem most ignorant, but upon looking at the name, and not knowing anyone with the name, I'd pronounce it as Ah-may-ah. I would not think mie. Maybe because I pronounce Maya as may-ah, and not as Mya. Edit: Formatting.
