[Opinions] Re: Mallory
in reply to a message by eLLe
It's a male name to me, simply because it's derived from the male form of the French word meaning "unlucky, unfortunate". (French, unlike English, is a gendered language. That's why we say a man with yellow hair is a "blond", but a woman with yellow hair is a "blonde".)I like Mallory's sound, but it's, er, unfortunate meaning is a big drawback. (And it doesn't have the benefit of timelessness that Claudia or Cecilia have.) Also it sounds surnamey to me.Overall, it's nms but I wouldn't mind it for someone else's child... as long as that child was a boy! :-p
