Dear Mum,
Just over two years have passed since the death of Uilliam and I find each day that it doesn't hurt as much. Only when I think of him starting kindergarten with Rachel and Henry do I shed a tear.
Quir and I are really going to be busier than ever after the letter we had on Tuesday. As you know Quir's parents have been gone for some times now and his only sibling, his younger sister Mim hasn't been in contact with any of her family since she ran away from home when she was eighteen, eleven years ago. We had a letter from a lawyer on Tuesday, turned out to be Mim's lawyer. The letter was informing us that Mim had died of lung cancer in Virginia a week ago and her will left all of her property to her brother.
Poor Quir was quite perplexed as would be imagined and even more so when the lawyer told us that Mim's property were her three orphaned little girls! Quir and I are their legal guardians now and we had the choice of giving up that right and putting them into foster care or up for adoption or keeping them ourselves as foster children or adopting them legally. We're going to take it slowly at first, and will most likely adopt all three of them if they choose.
The three girls seem to have had different fathers who each ran out on their mother when they found out she was pregnant. And it was actually because Mim was pregnant that she ran away from home when she was eighteen.
Imagine Quir surprise when he found out that the oldest, eleven years old, is named after him Quirina and her middle name means beloved, but she's called Rina all the time. It seems that Mim had some knowledge of me because she named her second daughter, now age six, Deeana Grace after me! The youngest is just two weeks old and is named after her mother Maria Eloise and her sisters call her Mimi.
Rina and Deeana are sweet and smart and since moving in with us have really opened up to us and love to play with our children. Mimi is very cute and you should see the way my Ireland kisses her and tries to give her toys to play with. I think you now have three new granddaughters and I'll be sending you pictures of all the children very soon!
