[Opinions] Cecil and Basil
WDYT of the names Cecil and Basil? Do you see an old man or a little kid? I can't see someone named Basil, but I could picture a kid name Cecil, and I think it would age well too. Could it work?

I like Cecil, good solid name. and I have a nephew named Basile. Actually, there's a small township just near our town called Saint Basile, that's what I think of.

I love both of these names, but the pronunciation gives me pause. I love the way the UK says them, "SESS-l" and "BAZ-l." I intensely dislike "SEE-sil" and "BAY-zil." Since I'm in the US, it's a problem.

I adore Cecil, but only pronounced SESS-il and not SEE-sil. Basil is okay - not something I would use, but it's not a bad name. I don't think there's anything wrong with giving a child either of these names.

I like Basil but for a girl [bay-zul]. I like Baz-ul for a boy, same spelling. Cecil is nice. They both can work for kids, after all your not naming a child but a person who will eventually grow up.

I love both. they are strong and handsome and underused. I can see a little kid with either name and I think they would age well.

I love Cecil! Basil's not bad, though I think it would get a lot of mispronunciations. I can easily imagine both on children. I remember seeing the combo Cecil Maverick once...it's still my favorite. Such a great cowboy name beyond the usual Jesse, Cody, etc.
