[Opinions] Aeson, Gamaliel and Evander
My boyfriend Ben is a total closeted name-nerd and he often comes to me with lists or randomly brings up ideas for names for potential one day (long time off) children. This morning we were reading the paper and he said that he really loves Aeson, Gamaliel and Evander for boys. So WDYT of Aeson, Gamaliel and Evander?
Mn suggestions?TIA!

I like Aeson and Evander's okay. I love Gamaliel and everyone throwing it away because of Warren G. Harding bothers me. It wasn't even his first name. Just the "G" between his fn & surname. I just think it's a little ridiculous. I read a book by Robin Jarvis where Gamaliel is the name of the protagonist, and that's what got me started on loving it.

I like Aeson and I adore Evander. Gamaliel looks weird and seems hard to pronounce.

Evander -- Growing on me by leaps and bounds! I am liking it very much.Aeson -- Not my favorite, but oodles better than Jason. At this moment, I like it, but I may not as much if you ask me later.Gamaliel -- Definitely not my cup of tea. :PYay for your BF; I think more guys need to be outed for the namenerds we know them to be. :)

hehe, I really don't like Gamaliel either and I am so puzzled about where the hell he got it from! None of these except Evander (which is also the only one I think I would consider using) are his usual style. Ben usually likes Biblical or old fashioned names and most of the time he will claim to like my Irish names (I think he may be humouring me for the most part though :p). The other thing that surprised me was that most of the boys names he likes have a nn he loves (Isaac "Zac" or "Ike", Jasper "Jaz", Oliver "Ollie" etc) but Aeson and Gamaliel he said he wouldn't want a nn :s

Aeson looks kreaytif as hell to me, even if it isn't. Gamaliel was Warren G. Harding's middle name, and associating anything with the man considered the USA's most corrupt president doesn't work for me. Evander is fine, but I prefer Everett (though I don't care for either that much).Array

They all sound lovely, but I think my favorite is Evander. I may use that one myself....

Love them all, even though Aeson on first glance is going to look like the worst sort of contrived name (trendy sound, creative spelling), even though it's not, lol. I would stick away from Gamaliel simply because of the Warren G. Harding association...he's not my favorite president, and he's certainly the only Gamaliel I'll ever heard of, so it just seems like he owns it, you know? That said, I really do love the sound and origin/meaning of all three names, and would quite like them on someone else's children.

Until you and Array both mentioned Warren G Harding and I went and looked him up, I had never heard of him. I am Australian so it is probably fair to assume that the majority of Aussies haven't heard of him either. But now that I have looked him, he would be the last namesake I would ever want!
I honestly dislike Gamaliel (too feminine for a boy to me) so it doesn't really matter to me all that much. Thanks for the opinions!

Hmmmm....Aeson is ok, why not just go with Jason considering its the Greek Mythology version of it? Gamaliel, I had to look that one up, the prn of it is too frilly for me to think of it as a boy name and I think people would get confused with it...though you could use maybe Lee for a nn. Evander is ok, nms, although I do like Evan...
