[Opinions] Hughett ...
WDYT of Hughett for a boy?I adore the name name Hugh, but every once in a while I think that it doesn't sound quite complete. I also tend to like boys names ending it -ett / -itt, and while looking through a list of these I found Hughett. I believe it's actually a surname, also seen spelled as Hewitt.Would work as a first name?Mirabelle & Hughett? or just Mirabelle & Hugh?

Definitely just Hugh. It is perfectly nice as a name on its own, imo. Hughett looks like the feminine form of Hugh to me. :-/ And not a pretty one at that, lol. I don't mind Hewitt, but using Hewitt with the nn Hugh seems a bit odd. It's also too surname-y and makes me think of taxes (Jackson Hewitt). :b

Honestly, it looks like someone trying to make a female version of Hugh. I know it isn't, but that's how it looks at first blush. I do love Hugh, though (tempted to use it if I'm ever crazed enough to have another son) and I'd just leave it at that.

Hugh is much better. Mirabelle and Hughett look mismatched and Hughett also reminds me of Hughette, the girls name. Hughett looks trendy and kind of made up and when paired with such a classy girls name like Mirabelle, it just doesn't work.

Hewitt is what immediately came to mind. The altered spelling just annoys me, sorry. This probably isn't your style, but I came across a French female form of the name, Huguette ("(h)yoo-GHET"), in a story. I thought it was cute.

I love Hugh and Hewitt could work (oh, how I love the surnames) if not for one horrible teacher named Mr. Hewitt LOL. Hughet almost looks like "Hug it" to me.Hugh gets my vote on that one. What about Hugh & Beckett?

When I first glanced at it I didnt think of Hugh I saw Hug het , Hewitt gives a better idea of the pronounciation, at least to me :)

I know a baby named Hewitt. Or actually he's about 3 by now. And my own childhood teddy bear is named Teddy Bear Hewitt, because he was a gift from some friends with the last name Hewitt. I like Hewitt ok as a fn, though it is extremely surnamey and that's not a trendy I care for much. I like this one as much as many of the other surnames-as-first-names that are in vogue though.I don't like Hughett at all. But I also don't like Hugh.

Perhaps not a good idea. It's too much like the female name Huguette (I have a niece named that.)
Hugh just by itself is a good name.

To be quite honest I've never even heard of the name Huguette and I doubt that Hughett would be confused with Huguette in the U.S. Thank you though : )How do you pronounce your niece's name, hyoo-ET?

It's "You-get". A French name, she's originally French speaking. (the "h" is silent.)
