[Opinions] Joan
What do you think of Joan for a girl? It hardly been used in a very long time, and how I'd love to see it make a little comeback! I've been really liking it because it has that retro feel, but I could still see it on a little girl (plus, Joanie as a nickname makes my heart melt). So, do you think it's too old-school to bring back just yet? Maybe I could stick to it as a middle name - Veronica Joan? Thanks in advance. :)

I love Joan! And I don't think you should relegate it to a mn position; while it does make a nice mn, it almost seems too fillerish to me there. Maybe it's because it only has one syllable. But anyway, I like it as a first name and that's where I would use it!

I don't see a problem with Joan as a first name. I work at a children's camp during the Summer, and in the past 2 years I've run into little June, Jean, Joan and Jane's. I love Joan, but if you would like it as a middle name, it works just as well. My grandmother was Cecile Joan.

Joan was a favorite name of mine as a little girl. I think it's adorable as a fn, and Joanie is cute. And it would always make a lovely MN

I didn't used to like this at all. I never thought it would work on a young person until I started watching Joan of Arcadia (a fabulous show...may it RIP) Seeing pretty young Amber Tamblyn called Joan really made me see it in a different light. I think it would make a bold choice for a first name. As a middle name, it's pretty 'blah' to me. I don't tend to like predictable middle names. Scoop them out front and they become fresh and new again. Marie, Rose, Anne, Jane, Joan...all make fabulous first names.

It is not really a favorite of mine but I agree that 'Joanie' is cute and it sounds very nice as a mn w/ Veronica. Good Luck!

I really like Joan as a fn. It's a very strong, feminine name. I associate it with Joan of Arc. My current favorite Joan combo is Joan Alessandra. =)

I think it's high-time it made a comeback. I like the name, Joan - it's a good, strong name for a girl and like the other posters, I agree it can be used for pretty much any age.Veronica Joan is a beautiful name, and yes Joan could work well as a mm.

I love it, and it suits any age though it's old. There was a time where Emma was suited only for older people, and it's used now. Joan of Arc is a good namesake (IMO) and I know a really nice woman called this. Joanie is very cute. I love it as either a mn or fn.

I have a friend named Joan but I never liked this name. Maybe it's the spelling that bothers me, I don't know, but I'd never use it. However, I think it makes a great mn that could practically go with anything.

It's okay, but I prefer Joanna or Joanne, though I know that would thwart your nn plan ;) Joanie is definitely cute.
Joan's nice as a middle name, infinitely better than the interminable Rose anyway.
