[Opinions] Evan, Jonathan, Ian, and Emmaline
I like varients of John. This is my fahter's name and I will probably name my son (if I have a son) after him. John is a family name. John was the name of my paternal great-grandfather, and my dad. However, John sounds to plain. My favorite varietns are Evan, Ian, and Jonathan. Does John sound to plan to use, or do you think a varient would be a better choice. Can you think of any other vareints I might have missed? Also, I would like the vareint to be a mn. Can you think of any combos combining John or the equilvalent with some of my favorite names (James, Ryan, Brian, and Grant) ? Now for Emmaline. I have been torn between Emma and Emily for the longest time. Do you think that Emmaline would be a good co,promise. I could call her Emma for short, but also have the "lee" sound I adore. Do you perfer Emmaline to Emma or Emily? Also, any good combos? (Congratulations, you have finsihed rreading this post!)

I love Emmaline / Emmeline! Emma and Emily are so used, but they are nice nn. I too have been looking for a good name that is a variant of John, because I have alot of John's in my family, and just plain John doesn't sound that great with the male names I like. Ian is nice. But it is also kind of popular right now, just like Evan and Jonathan. But with boys names I tend not to care if they are popular or not popular, as much as with girls names. Eoin is also a nice version of John.

John isn't plain in the least. John is the strong, silent type. Still waters run deep. I always wanted a John for a husband or a son growing up. In a world of Xanders, Bryces, Logans and Jaxons, John is a breath of fresh air. Both John and Mary may have been overly used in the past, but I think the newest generation needs them badly. And just think of the look on your father's face when you tell him. You won't regret it, especially if it's a mn. :-)Brian John
Aubrey John
Graham John ("GRAY-um")
Leland John (nn Lee?)
Brendan John
Sebastian John
Christopher John I love Emily, Emma and Emmeline* equally. Emmeline Pankhurst, along with her dds Christabel, Sylvia and Adela fought and won the vote for women, so I have a soft spot in my heart for Emmeline. Emmeline Christabel (actually Sylvia Christabel is my favorite Pankhurst combination)
Emmeline Charlotte
Emmeline Sophie
Emmeline Frances
Emmeline Pearl

Emmeline Jane is nota combo i would consider. Jayne (proounced Jane) is my real name. I go by Jaynie; Jane is just to plain for me. Frances was my Grandma's name, but I don't like the name. I adore Charlotte, and Hannah.

I find John somewhat dull, but it actually seems less overused that Jonathan to me. I actually like Ian, but it, along with Evan and Jonathan, seems less classic and long-standing than John to me. (Same with Sean/Shawn, another variant of John) I don't mind Jack but it's become WAY too popular lately. :-/ If I had to pick out of all of these, I'd go with John or Ian. Whichever one you go with, I'd probably pick a more unusual, less common mn to balance out the combo. I'm not a fan of Emmaline (I prefer the Emmeline spelling for some reason...but I'm not a fan of the name in general, actually). But I'd rather see Emmaline than yet another Emma or Emily, for sure. ETA: This site lists Emmaline's pronunciation as EM-uh-leen, but I automatically think EM-uh-lyne, which I prefer a little more. But I don't personally know anyone with the name, either way.

Those are all great alternatives to John, especially Jonathan and Ian, but I don't necessarily find John too plain. I also like Jonas. Another alt. is Johann. If you think John is too boring, you could use it as a mn or a nn for Jonathan. You could also use John w/ nn Jack. I really like names that honor family, so I think its great that you are considering it.
Some ideas:
Brian Jonathan
James Ian
Jonas Grant
Ryan Johann
Jonathan GrantAs for Emmaline, it's lovely, although I prefer Emma-line to Emma-leen. I would rather have a long name that can be nicknamed than a nickname to start out with.

I personally prefer variants of John. Jonathan is nice, and I like Evan, but Ian isn't really my style. I'm pretty sure that Sean is a variant of John as well - I really like this one (it is my older brother's name :-) Sean Jason).I don't really like Emmaline, and really don't like Emma, but I think Emily is pretty.

I love John, and dont find it plain at all. But you might try Jonas and Jonah.
As to Emmeline, I absolutely love this name. I prefer it pronounced Emma-line instead of Emma-leen or Emma-lyn, but Emmeline is great any way its pronounced. I love Emma, but not Emily, and I find that Emmeline strikes a perfect balance between the two.
