Help[Opinions] His nickname is Smoke . . .
He's in love with Landon, and his nn is Smoke.
It occured to me yesterday that I never picked out a real name for him. o.O
He's black, 21 years old, and throws a bunch of parties. Landon doesn't love him back, he considers them friends with benefits, but Smoke is crazy about him. By the end of the story, Smoke finds love with a girl (whose name I will probably figure out next). So, his fn should be . . . ?
Ideas I have now are:
Devin
Blake
Douglas
Opinions? Suggestions?

This should really be on the Writing Board. I know it asks about names, but it's definitely tailored around the character. I mean, the WB exists for a reason.
Agree with Rox that I can't really see a Doug as you describe. I don't like Devin at all, but I like Blake, though it feels kind of now for a 21 year old. My top pick would be Luke, though.

A lot of people post here asking about character names, and most of the time it's not a big deal, but I just felt like your post has more character and less name relevance. It's just my opinion, though; don't worry about it. And a quick scan of the Writing Board didn't turn your name up really at all, so I thought maybe you didn't even know about it. No worries.

Id' go with Devin, probably spelling it Devon. I can't picture a black guy named Blake, for some reason, and can't picture a 21-year-old partier named Douglas, no matter what color.
Also, I've heard the term "smoke" used disparagingly by some blacks to refer to white people, so I wonder how likely it would be for a black guy to have that as a nn.
