[Opinions] Hallie?
So I was watching the Lindsay Lohan version of The Parent Trap (again :P) and I got to thinking about the name Hallie. It was my favourite girl name for a while, before dropping off my list but now it's back up there. I have a few Hallie questions for you...1) Does it seem too nicknamey to you? I've read this comment before but personally, I don't see how it's any different than naming your daughter Molly or Sally. Then again, I find Mia and Kate complete on their own but not Addie or Lizzy....2)Does it sound too similar to Hayley for your comfort? Nothing wrong with Hayley; I love that name. But...would you avoid Hallie for the sake of avoiding confusion? Especially if you have a second cousin and friend named Hayley? (they live very far away, one overseas...)3) Your preffered spelling:
Halle (would this lessen confusion over prn and spelling due to popular culture ie: Halle Berry?Halley (this feels 'wrong' to me but do you like it?)Hally (I liked this when I was about 14. Now, it makes me want to change the h to an s.)Middle name suggestions? I've always liked Hallie Kate or Hallie Elizabeth (my mn, not a filler)Thanks for helping me in my quest to make my top ten! :P

1) Does it seem too nicknamey to you?
- No of course not. Granted I adore Maggie as a full name but what would Hallie be a nickname for?? 2)Does it sound too similar to Hayley for your comfort?
- Yes, a little. But if I loved the name I would still use it. Especially at first, people might call her Hayley since they hear that more. 3) Your preffered spelling:
- Hallie, from THe Parent TRap (it was the first time I heard the name & I liked it's cute & spunky feel). Halle feels incomplete to me, like it could be "hall" spelled creatively & the 'e' is silent. Middle name suggestions?
Hallie Kate - Both names have the same 'feel' to me, fun, free spirited, independent. But it feels like the flow abruptly stops after Kate. I like Hallie Kathleen or Hallie Katherine better. Hallie Kate could be the cute nickname.
Hallie Elizabeth (my mn, not a filler) - I love parents using their name as the child's middle name or the parent & child sharing a middle name. PLus this sounds very nice

Hallie was originally a nickname for Harriet (according to this site, anyway) but I've come across the nicknamey comment before. Ohh, Hallie Kathleen :D thanks for your comments.

When I see Hallie or Halle, I automatically think of Halle Berry, but Hallie may get mixed up with Haley's in school because teachers are having to adjust to like 12 different spelling of that name. So they just may assume its kre8ive. I would probably go with Halle, just because the actress is so well known. Good luck.

I'm worried about the same thing with the kre8tive Hayleys. Thanks :)

LolI must've seen that movie over a 100 times. I know the entire dialogue and music by heart! (and I still don't get tired of it! :p)Anyway... on to the name Hallie.I like it a lot, and I think it's fine as a name on it's own. I don't think it should be a nickname for another name. I'm not sure if it would age well, though, it always sounds a little young to me.
I don't think it sounds too much like Hailey, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
I actually find the Halle pronunciation a lot more confusing than the Hallie spelling. I'd be inclined to pronounce Halle as HAL.
I don't really like the spellings Halley or Hally, Hallie is better imo.
Kate or Elizabeth are both nice mns to go with Hallie. I'm not really sure what names you like, but here are some that I like:Hallie Rachel
Hallie Jade
Hallie Mercedes
Hallie Piper

The Parent Trap love! "You know about Annie?"
"....I AM Annie"Anyway :PYeah, I thought about the age thing but I¡¦m able to picture an adult Hallie (Halle Berry) so I¡¦m not too worried about that ƒºHmmm¡K.that¡¦s how I feel with the Halle spelling. Either Hal or Hall-ee mostly, until I remember Halle Berry :P I saw Halley in a movie ( I think it was Serendipity?) but I¡¦ve never really liked it. Thanks for the name suggestions. I¡¦m eclectic; just depends on the individual name. What¡¦s weird is, I usually love Rachel and I don¡¦t like really like Piper as a fn but out of your combos, I¡¦m digging Hallie Piper :D It¡¦s¡K.sweet mixed with spunky? I don¡¦t know, something about it I love even though I¡¦m not wild about Piper. Hallie Rachel¡KI know too many Rachels/Rachaels (lol, one is a sister of a Hayley) but it¡¦s still a sweet combo. Hallie Jade is quite nice, thanks. Hallie Mercedes¡K.sorry but I¡¦m not digging it. Then again, I can¡¦t get myself to even like Mercedes one little bit. Thanks for the comments/suggestions!

Lol!"It's me or them! Get the picture?"
"Them..."
".... ExCUSE me???"
"Them. T-H-E-M. Them. Get the picture?"
ah well anyway... :)
I'm glad you like some of my combos :) And yeah, I remember now, Halley is from Serendipity!

1) No, I don't think it's nicknamey.
2) Hallie is not too close to Hayley, especially if the Hayleys live far away. That's not to say I'd have a Hayley/Hallie sibset, but I think friends & cousins are fine.
3) I prefer Hallie.
Halle has always looked like to me like it should be prn. "Hail" & is too "Halle Berry-ish" for me
Something looks "off" in Halley
Hally looks incomplete or misspelled
Halley? Hallee? Halli? Hallea? Halleigh? (I don't like the last 3 I listed, but they're alternate spellings, I guess.)I like Hallie Kate, but the Pepsi girl (do you remember her?) is named Hallie Kate http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0004893/I like Hallie Elizabeth if that's your mn. I don't think I'm very good w/ mns, but I'll give it a shot.
Hallie Jade, Hallie Aurora, Hallie Meredith

Actually...I first heard/saw the name Hallie Kate thanks to Pepsi girl :P In Bicentennial Man, to be exact. I've always loved Kate so I thought it was perfect.I like all of your mn suggestions, actually. Esp. Hallie Aurora; Aurora is one of my favourites :)Thanks.

I like Parent Trap too! Lol.1) Does it seem too nicknamey to you? Well, I've always seen Hallie as a name on its own. Maybe thats just because I knew a Hallie as a child. For reference, I think Molly and Sally are fine on their own, but I think Addie and Lizzy are too nicknamey. I think Hallie fits in the first category. 2)Does it sound too similar to Hayley for your comfort? Well I think Hallie would sometimes get confused with Hayley, but not enough to avoid using it. I think there are alot of similar sounding names out there, and names get mixed up no matter what they are. As for the Hayley's you know, I think only you can decide based on how close you are to them if this would be a problem, but I'd only find this a problem if it was sisters, or if, say, they lived down the street and your kids played together every day.3) Your preffered spelling: Hallie. I also think it is the least confusing. I know Halle is prn. same way, but seriously, every time I see it I just think "Hal!" To me, if there is no i or y there, it doesn't make an e sound. Thge other spellings aren't great, especially Hally.
Middle name suggestions? I've always liked Hallie Kate or Hallie Elizabeth (my mn, not a filler)- I like Hallie Elizabeth. Hallie Kate is a bit cutesy as a full name for me- how about Hallie Katherine, and you could call her Hallie Kate occasionaly?

Since children are a long way off (three years or more.) the Hayleys thing might change. I might loose contact (I hope not!) or one might move closer or I might move near them etc. I really can't tell at this point. If I had a Hallie right now, though, it wouldn't be a problem. Except for the occasinal "Hey Hayley" "Hey Hallie" over msn/letters :P Hallie Katherine nn Hallie Kate is really nice, thanks :) I tend to prefer Catherine but I think I prefer Hallie Kate to Hallie Cate.
Ohhh, I'm digging Hallie Winter. Nice, nice. Funny you should mention Jemima and Samara. I know a Jemima and another friend uses Samara as an alias :P Ohh, Hallie Louisa! I love Louisa! Thanks :)

Just to clarify...how are you pronoucing Hallie? I know its hard to explain over the net but... is it like hah-lee (short a) or like Hayley? unfortunatley I've seen Hallie as a creative spelling for Hayley. I prn it the fist way, and once again, if there is no y or i before that first l- eg Haylie, Hailey, Haillee etc (yuck!), you are never going to convince me its pronounced with the hay sound as opposed to hah.Yikes that was a big explaination of a simple question :)
