I find it very country-bumpkin on a boy, and not feminine at all on a girl. I actually know a woman named Dale (and have for years) who's in her mid-40s, and I don't currently know any male Dales (:b) so I associate it a little more as a female name for that reason only. I still don't like it at all, though. :-/

Dale is one of the few truly unisex names that I know. (My mind usually puts names in one category or the other.)
I like dated names, as long as at least 30 years have gone by. It's the recycler in me. But I do find Dale a rather dull name, sorry. I can see using it if you want a no-frills, less-is-more kind of a name. It just doesn't appeal to me personally.

I've never particularly cared for Dale for either sex. It always had sort of hillbilly connotations for me.

I went to school with two Dale's, both male (I'm 20 now, if that helps). I don't think it's dated - it's never been popular enough for that. I rather like it on a girl.
