Help[Opinions] Eloise?
Well D-day is here and still no baby, but that is probably a good thing since we are still searching for a girl's name. My husband is in love with Elle, and I agree it is a pretty name, but I want something a little more for the birth certificate and when she gets older. My name never really lent itself to many options, and I want that for my child, plus older sis Charlotte has that. We would mainly call her Elle/Ellie, but would use the formal name as well.
Eloise- didn't love it at first, but it is really growing on me.
Elena- for some reason this sounds a little exotic to me. is it too much so for an irish/german/american family?
Eleanor- this has been suggested from the beginning, but I cannot shake the old lady image for some reason.
Elle- my husband's first choice.
or something else, which possibly ends in -el (no Isobel though; we know about 6 under 3)?
Also Charley's mn is after my youngest sis and goddaughter- Charlotte MacKenzie. I think I would like to use my second youngest sister's name as mn, but is Eloise/Elena/Elle Alexandra too much of a mouthful?

Eloise is fabulous! It's one of my favorite names. I wonder if it's a bit too dated for the States, though. It sounds like a very British name.
Elena doesn't really strike me as exotic, maybe because I heard it repeated over and over again in my Spanish classes. I'm not real fond of this name.
Eleanor has an old lady image, I agree.
Elle is ery cute, but I can see why you'd want a more substantial first name.
If you're looking for other names that contain el-, I suggest Ellen, Elia, Eliana, or Eliane.

I think Eloise Alexandra or Eleanor Alexandra sound best, imo. I dislike Elle, but I'd much rather see it as a nn than a formal name. I do like Ellie as a nn, though, and Ella (as a nn or formal name). I see Eloise and Eleanor as somewhat "old-lady-ish" but that's a good thing in my book. :) I have an Aunt Eloise who's in her 70s, so I'm used to the name, but I also like the Eloise children's books.

Elena and Eleanor are both stunning. Elle is too nicknamey and I hate Eloise, sorry. Eleanor Alexandra and Elena Alexandra are both gorgeous! If I had to pick I'd say Elena Alexandra "Ellie/Elle".
What about Annabel / Annabelle, Gabrielle, or Mirabel / Mirabelle?

Eloise - I find the "eeeze" sound very unattractive.
Eleanor - It's ok. I personally find it plain and frumpy, but I don't know why. It's one of the names I'm fine with on other people's kids, but it will never be a name I like for my own.
Elinor - I like this version more which I associate with Jane Austen and Sense and Sensibility. I find it more attractive than Eleanor.
Elle - It just seems SO short to me. Elle. L. And I think "she" in French.

Eloise- I love Eloise! It would be a very cute option that would easily shorten to Elle to appease your husband. Eloise Alexandra sounds much better than Elle Alexandra.
Elena- I just don't like this name and as it ends in the a sound it will blend into Alexanrda, which may sound like Elaine Alexandra.
Eleanor- Yes, it does sound like an old lady. But that is kind of the appeal for me. I like it. And once you hear it on a little girl, it will start to sound like a cute, baby girl name. And a name that she easily be able to use throughout her entire lifetime. (Can you tell it is my favourite of the list?)

I would go with Eloise because I know several people named Elena and so it doesn't seem unique to me (I live in North Carolina so its fairly normal)If you can't shake the old lady image out of your head the Eleanor is not the name to use and Elle is just to short.
