[Surname] Oxendine, Locklear
What are the origins of these last names? They are common for the Lumbee Indian tribe of NC. Thanks.

Lockclear again, and still no firm answer. Last time I suggested a version of the English surname Lockyer, "locksmith", but that internal L raises doubts. I don't think a French origin is out of the question, but the best I can come up with is Leclair, and that seems even more doubtful. The search goes on.

Thank you, I'm new to this board and didn't realize that this query had been addressed.
No worries, it's always worth revisiting an unexplained name. Someone might have some new information to contribute.
