[Opinions] Sophia
I love the name Sophia. I think that it is classic, phonetically-beautiful, and I love the meaning. My SO loves this name too... and not that we're expecting or even hoping to expect... but he has a very common surname, and Sophia is growing in popularity...Could it still be used eventually?

I honestly think you should use whatever name both you and your Dh love. We plan on naming our next DD Sofia, so I obviously love the name. Our last name isn't common, but I would still use it even if it were. :)

For this name, I really wouldn't look at its popularity. It's always come across as a classic for me so I think it's fine.

I'm not sure. I also love it, and its popularity saddens me. I think it remains to be seen -- it might end up sounding strange and outdated, like someone naming a child Heather Kimberly today. I'm not sure if it is at that height of popularity now that would cause that, or if it is just low enough that it will fade out sort of quiety and be able to be used randomly again in the future. Personally, if I were to consider it, it would be a MN. Like Adelle Sophia (heh -- that's what I would change my own name to if I were to ever change it).+ Clarification about the height of popularity -- I know that numerically it is very high, but I actually don't know of any born in my area. It isn't so prevalent that people automatically associate it with popular names here. Like if I had to pick the Jennifer of the last few years, it would be the Em- names, Ava, or Olivia. Sophia isn't yet in the clump for me, but I imagine it is for many people.

Sophia isn't very popular in Essex where I come from.

It depends if it's still popular whenever 'eventually' is. Sophia is not just popular, but incredibly trendy. Look at its usage compared to just 10 years ago. That means it will date your child, as opposed to a consistently popular name like Elizabeth which is timeless, albeit boring.Actually Sophia isn't yet top 100 where I live (Scotland), and I do love it so I see the appeal. We have Sophie instead. It's either #1 or #2 these days :-/
