[Opinions] Re: Would love your help with Irish, Gaelic, and Scottish names
I really love all of these and love the idea of using something so uncommon in the USA to go with your common LN, it will just help to reinforce you child's distinct personality and show your love for him.I think many of these names will work, a lot of them aren't as popular as we might think, now if you actually go to Ireland or Scotland then the names will get more popular. Aidan ~ It's not all that popular in the USA really but the spelling Aiden is actually more popular. I really like the Gaelic Aodhan spelling quite a bit but it would definitely be confusing in the US.
Cavan ~ well I usually hear this being pronounced like Kevin so I'm sure that's how people here will try to spell it.
Carrick ~ this would work well and is really cute!
Cian ~ I love this but if you're thinking on pronouncing it like Cain / Kane then I think it could get really confusing. Now if you pronounce it like kee-an then I think it would work.
Ciaran ~ I adore this and God willing this will be the name of my first son! I know that the Kieran spelling will be more easy for my family to spell but I dearly love the C as is would honor my father with the initials. I think it could really work. :)
Cillian ~ this is so cute and would work well I think though the Killian spelling would be easier to spell.
Colin ~ this is my dad's name and I dearly love it and would definitely use it. Most people pronounce it right though some say cole-in and my maternal grandma often spells it Callin. But in general I think it would work. :)
Conall ~ nice but rather like a surname.
Conor ~ very popular like Connor and Conner.
Cormac ~ okay but a bit strange for the USA.
Declan ~ rather popular in Ireland but it's so cute and not popular here. it would definitely work!
Eamon ~ I heard this is a movie the other night and remembered how much I like this name! I think it would work very well and is so cute! :)
Owen ~ getting increasingly popular but it's so cute and would work well.
Fintan ~ cute but not as readily acceptable in the USA.
Finn ~ very cute and would work well! I like it as a nickname for Finley.
Hugh ~ popular in the UK but here not so much and so I think it would really work.
Kevin ~ so popular and over used.
Lachlan ~ I really like this a lot and it would definately work very well.
Padraig ~ I like this spelling but it really wouldn't work well and would constantly be misspelled.
Riordan ~ I love this and it would work very well! Also Rearden would be great.
Ronan ~ I love this and Rowan is also usable.
Rory ~ very cute but really popular lately.
Sean ~ very popular so it would definitely work but wouldn't be unusual at all.
Tadhg ~ I think the sound would work but I seriously doubt that the spelling would work. And people really wouldn't know how to pronounce it if they saw if, I even have a hard time with it. Teag or Teeg would work better or Teagan or Teegan.
Alastair ~ this is so cute and would work very well.
Caelan ~ cute but a bit feminine to me. the spelling might not work at all.
Callum ~ this would work really well and is so cute. it is gaining popularity in Scotland and the rest of the UK but it's rarely heard here.
Cullen ~ very cute though I like Colin and Callum better. To me this reminds me of Macaulay Culkin a bit so I don't like it as much.
Donovan ~ very cute and would work very well.
Duncan ~ adorable and would definitely work.
Gannon ~ okay though it's rather like canon and sounds surnamey to me.
Graeme or Graham ~ both would work and are really cute.
Grady ~ adorable but it is gaining some popularity.
Grant ~ sweet again gaining a bit of popularity but not much.
Ian ~ lovely though it has been very popular in recent years.
Keegan ~ love it and I think it would really work. I know two Keegans one a college student and one a little boy who's mom spells it Keaghan for some reason.
Kellen ~ I hear this as feminine for some reason somewhere between Kelly and Hellen so doesn't really work for me.I hope this helps, you have so many adorable names here, I hope you are able to find one you really love for your new little one. :)
