[Opinions] Re: Band [ed. x2]
in reply to a message by Adelle
It's true! I mean, think of some bands. The Early November. The Postal Service. The Flaming Lips. The Rolling Stones. The Barenaked Ladies. This is a method that works.
Other great ideas with examples of real bands in parentheses:
1. ______ and the _______ (Harry and the Potters, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Me First And The Gimme Gimmes, Hootie and the Blowfish)
2. A cultural reference (I Voted For Kodos, Fall Out Boy, Lounge Against the Machine)
3. A lyric from a song you like (Pretty Girls Make Graves)
4. _______ (adjective) _________ (noun), skipping that silly "The" business (Gin Blossoms, Bedouin Soundclash, Green Day, Bad Religion)
5. The ______ (The Beatles, The Vines)
6. A character from literature or history (Jethro Tull, Uriah Heep, Veruca Salt, Franz Ferdinand)
7. MC ______ (best for solo artists; MC Hammer, MC Lars, etc, etc)
The only one that's off limits is Debussy (prn. duh-BUSS-ee in this case), because that's mine.
Array
ETA: _____ (noun) of the ________ (as many adjectives and nouns as necessary)
And my suggestion for you: The Devil Wears Tada. Just because. Oh, and one more trick up my sleeve:
The Word Smush. A bunch of these ended up on the Onion's bad band names list. Stuff like Tom Cruise Control. The House That Gloria Vanderbilt. Guns N'Rosa Parks. I love that kind of stuff, even if the A.V. Club disagrees with me. (http://www.avclub.com/content/node/57488)
Some wordsmush ideas:
Copacabandana
Pope Benedict the Sixteen Candles (The Sixteen Candles would be acceptable by Adelle's rule, too)
Continental Breakfast Club
Baby's Day Out of The Closet
Saved By The Belly Dancer
Full House of a Thousand Corpses
Jeopardean Martin
You get the idea.
Oh, and I don't think I'd be alone in thinking that Roseannadanna would be a great band name.
ETA2: Punctuation helps every band name. Alcatraz is one thing, but Alcatraz! is quite another. Random jargon and buzzwords are always good ideas, too. Imagine a band called Wikiality or Truthiness. Or MacJob (MacSlacker, even).
