Do you think the (girls) name Jean is due for a comeback? I can't decide whether I prefer Jean or Jeanne - I really like the spelling Jeanne - it makes the name look somewhat more modern to my eyes, frillier. But a lot of people pronounce it like Jeannie or the French way, zhan, and I always shy from names with pronunciation issues. How do you pronounce it?
Also, is the combination Jean Louise / Jeanne Louise tied too closely to "To Kill a Mockingbird"?

I love the name Jean. When I was younger, Jean Elizabeth, nn Jeanie was one of my favorite names for a dd. "Cheer up, sleepy Jean . . . "
I like Jeanne, but I pronounce it "zhann."
Jean Louise is a nice combination. I doubt very much anyone would think of "To Kill a Mockingbird." And even if they did, so what? That's a great reference.

I like Jean and I think Jeannie(GEN- ie) is really cute. Jean Louise does remind me of "To Kill A Mockingbird" but that's a good thing as far as I am concerned.
Too me Jeanne is pronounced the French way - ZHAN but then I don't live in the U.S. I live in Ireland, studied French in school and have met people called Jeanne(ZHAN) & Jean. If you really like Jeanne use it, I would say.

My mother's name is Jeanne pronounced like Jeannie, as you said. My grandmother's name (paternal side) is Jean although she goes be Jeannie. Jean Louise is a very nice combo. My grandmother's name is Jean Allen and my mom's name is Jeanne Marie .
ETA my mom was named after my great aunt who would have been born around 1925-1935 and she pronounces Jeanne as Jeannie also.

I think Jean is very cute. My friend's mother is named Jean Marie, which I think is even cuter. She prefers Jeanne and once considered changing her name legally to Jeanne, but never went through with it.
I have never heard Jeanne or Jean mispronounced before. I don't think that's much of a worry in the US. Jean Marie is often called Jeannie, and I think Jeannie's a cute nn too.
Jean Louise is pretty, but yes, it is pretty closely associated with TKAM. Although that's not a bad thing, it's way better than Scout! Also, the Dana Girls, (part of the Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys thing) were Jean and Louise.

I pronounce the two spellings differently
Jean (JEEN)
Jeanne (ZHAN)
for me one of them is English and the other is French. It's like Mary and Marie, they look like the different spellings of the same name, but in fact they are not.
I prefer Jeanne (spelling and pronounciation)
