[Opinions] Belrose on a boy?
Do you think it could work in the mn slot? I believe it was originally my DH's g-ma's surname before she married & moved it to her mn slot. DH last night suggested Gideon (*nods to Lillian*) to replace Moses, but I'm concerned Gideon Peregrine (Surname ending with -on) might be too much. Gideon Belrose sounds nice enough, but do you think most people would immediately say, "Rose on a boy? What were you thinking?!"TIA for your input.Edited for clarity
Edited (again) for grammar

I think as a middle name it's fine. You will most often see it written down and it looks very masculine in the written form. It's only if you say it (without the first name) that it comes in question, as the others have said, with all of the Belle and Rose names.

I like Gideon Belrose : ) I also like Gideon Peregrine, and I don't think that it sounds like too much with your surname.

yes only as a mn it could work

I think if you were sure it was her surname it would be okay as a mn, esp. if she's really important to you. My brother goes by Rosie (I don't know how he spells it) as a nn from our surname, so I don't particularly find it a problem to use a surname/girl's name on a boy. However, I wouldn't use it if I wasn't sure or it was just to replace another name that didn't seem to work. (I agree about the double -in sound ending.)

No... I don't even like it on a girl

better notEven if it is a family name, it really does not work on a boy. Not only will people think "Rose" there's also "belle/Bell" in there too. The name is essentially the same as Rosabelle, and I sure hope you would never consider *that* on a boy1 (On a girl either but that's for some other time.)

I have to go with no on this one. Belle names are so popular for girls right now that combined with the rose, as you note already, it's too much. Sorry. Gideon is handsome, and I don't think Gideon Peregrine is too N-heaving.

My first instinct was "No!" because I thought you were thinking of it as a first name. However I think it would work as a middle name very well. Gideon Belrose is a great combo IMO. I really like Gideon.
