John and I were married eight months ago, and never did I expect we would be leaving Virginia for the West. But when he heard of a wagon train heading for California, he made the announcement he was ready to leave. Of course, we had discussed it before, but I didn't anticipate actually leaving.
To be quite honest, I'm a little nervous...heading out for the frontier and an unknown world. I'm particulary sad about leaving my family, especially my mother and sisters. But, together, John and I have decided to embark on a new adventure into our lives, and we look forward to finding happiness in California.
I write as we are leaving, and now the Virginia hills are disappearing. I wonder if we're ever meant to see them again, but now I must look forward to what lies ahead.
