I think that Carys is a wonderful name! It is rich in Welsh culture, very rare yet beautiful, and even though it's a short name, I picture a girl named this having strength, determination, or will-power. I feel it has some majestic qualities, and sort of a medieval-ish style, as sometimes I picture a Welsh princess or other important female with this name sake. I know it is was pronounced KAR-is, but considering it's rarity, I can assume that possible mispronunciations might include Carries OR CAR-ees. This actually doesn't bring up any stereotypes for me, maybe because it is under-used, but if I had to pick one, then maybe drama-queen? But not likely. I personally don't know how any kids could make fun of a name like this, since there are not (or I haven't realized) any fowl words, slang, etc. connected to it. So I say, go name your daughter Carys, it's beautiful!
