[Opinions] WDYTO Bernadette??
This used to be one of my faves. Not as much any more, but I am just curious: when I used to ask about my faves, people would always rank it low or claim they hated it with no good reason. So my questions are: what do you think? Do you hate it? Why? Any ideas why it's ranked so low? Associations or something?? Just curious why people always hated it.

I hate it, I'll admit, and for no good reason, other than that I really dislike almost all -ette names. The only one I like is Lisette.

Bernadette just sounds fussy to me; it probably is just the generation thing.

I've always liked it because I had good associations. It was the name a good friend used when we all had to choose names in French class, it was later the name she used for her confirmation.
I've always been a fan of Bernadette Peters, too.
The only thing I dislike is that it is rather long, without any attractive (imo) nns. Berna? Bernie?

Me too!I am actually a huge fan of Bernadette Peters. Guess that's why I like it. :)

I adore it.I'd agree with Array's opinion, ette names aren't popular right now. It's too bad, it's a great name."Also, not to start a fight, but your siggy is really big, and really sparkly. Can you maybe tone it down just a tad?

Yeah...we were talking about that...see belowYeah, people told me....I never heard anything about it before, and I was trying to change it, but I'm on a really bad computer so it's not working too well. But I'm trying!

I really dont like it for 2 reasons:
1) I really, really don't like the sound of the name, it doesn't appeal to me in the least
2) Bad association with a Bernadette from my uni classes last year.

I love Bernadette, especially with Bettie, Etta, Detta, Ettie, Bennie, or Bear as nicknames. There are so many options beyond Bernie. :D I think the reason it's rated so low is the fact that -ette names aren't fashionable in the slightest. It's still seen as an old woman's name, but in a generation or so, people will begin to see it as possible on a little girl again.Array (also loves Claudette)

I must say that Sunday night my DH borrowed a CD from our friends - it was a Cajun CD with a song called "Bernadette". So right now this song is running through my head. Not a bad thing, actually a catchy tune!I don't think I would use it as a fn because it is (1) a little wild for my fn sytle and (2) I would greatly fear the nn "Bernie"!

Maybe it's because of the sound (awkward in their accent etc, that's what I find in some names) or maybe bad associations, dislike the possible nn's (in this case Bernie)I like Bernadette, I think it's really pretty and under used.(off topic) your signature is painful on the eyes... sorry to be a pain, but I'm sure others would agree, they had a long heated argument about glittering sigs a while back.

Thanks for letting me knowAbout the sig. I have to figure out how to change it on this computer. Once I do, I'll change it. Didn't know about the sig argument!

it's ok..I wasn't bothered by it too much, but some people may have found it annoying. Thanks for not being bothersome about it :)

Yeah, that might be a good idea. If someone had epilpsey it could trigger a seizure I believe. I know my cousin cannot be around strobe lights and such.
