Oooh...Eleanor! *swoons*...

I absolutely adore it. It is SO classy and gracious and elegant and timeless and strong and gorgeous and I could go on and on... :) The name Eleanor has always reminded me of a string of pearls: just perfectly classy. I like all of the nn possibilities, especially Nell. I see it as an "antique" name, not "old" at all. It is along the same lines for me as Lillian, Viola, Margaret, etc., all of which I love, but even better than those. I think a little Eleanor would be gorgeous, and its actually one of the names on my "I-will-name-my-future-child-this" short list. Especially since Ellie and Nora are so common now, I don't think it would be seen as unusual at all. I personally prefer Eleanor by just a bit, but Elinor is very pretty as well, and I also rather like Elanor for the LOTR connection and meaning.

Well I think Eleanor is often associated with Eleanor Roosevelt, who was a great lady, but not overly attractive, and since she is the only famous Eleanor I can think of right now, she might be the only Eleanor people think of. I think it is lovely and I like both spellings. I LOVE Nora!

Eleanor is gorgeous, and the nicknames are cute (if overdone). It doesn't remind me of an old lady in the slighest--it's being revived strongly now and I really don't think an Eleanor would get teased.

I think Eleanor is a very classy name. It reminds me of a first lady for some reason. I think it would be very cute on a little girl too.

No! I don't think an Eleanor would get made fun of. Eleanor is a sophisticated, feminine name. If your husband has a problem with the name why not use Eleanor and he can use one of the many nn's that are available for Eleanor? I prefer the spelling Eleanor or Eleanore, but not Elinor. The spelling Elinor reminds me of Elsinore.

I really like Eleanor. It honestly reminds me of a TV show I don't often get to watch but have recently been able to watch. There's a character named Eleanor "Ellie" and she's one of my favorite characters.

I don't view it as an old lady name at all, though. In fact, I'm sure an Eleanor will not get teased (at least, not for her name) because Eleanor is increasing in popularity.

I love it! it has been my favorite name since I was about 9 when I read the book "Ella Enchanted". I prefer Eleanor and dislike Elinor. If I were to not use Eleanor I would want to use Elanor because it has such a pretty meaning. I don't picture an old lady at all and think it is a cute name. I told a friend it was my favorite name an she reacted very well to it.

Where I live Eleanor / Ellie / Ella are so popular for the under 20s it's hard to imagine it being viewed as an old lady name! I do like the name but said popularity puts me off a little. I prefer Eleanor.

I like Elinor best. This spelling just appeals to me more but I think both Elinor and Eleanor are very pretty, traditional and classy sounding. It definitely doesn't remind me of an old fat lady and I don't think someone named Eleanor/Elinor would be teased. Miss-smiley suggested Elena which I think is even prettier and its not as traditional sounding =)

It doesn't remind me of an old fat lady, and no I don't think she would get teased. It is solid, traditional name that I think is pretty! I prefer Eleanor to Elinor but how about Elena, Eleanora or Elanor to suggest to your husband?
