My husband and I almost named my daughter Arella! It does mean that. (Hebrew names can be looked up at hebrewbabyname.com - its fabulous ;)

I prefer Arielle or Ariella. :)

Arella isn't really my style. I think Ariella, though, is lovely, and is my top favorite name for a girl :-)

It's ok. Not something I would use though.

I haven't heard of it until just now, and I like it a lot.

it's just another "ella" name, maybe they meant Ariella (which I must admit I'm quite fond of)

Err...no, it isn't. I can't vouch for the etymological accuracy, but I've seen it before, in multiple places, listed as some variant on "messenger of God." This leads me to believe that it probably has some origin of its own, even if that origin isn't the one the OP has given.Mashka would know, maybe? Since she actually knows Hebrew and I just poke at Hebrew names in my spare time. :DArray

my mistake..I've never seen it before, and I shouldn't have said it wasn't a name. I really should think before I type, apologies!

Oh, it's cool, no worries. :DI've always been a bit idly curious about the name myself, so I'm hoping someone can get to the bottom of it.Array

This one is a doozy...Firstly, in Hebrew, arel means 'imperfect', 'unclean' and 'uncircumcised'. Arella would therefore be feminising arel by tacking on an -la (in the same sense that one would feminise Aviv or Adam by tacking an 'A' to the end of the name), however arella doesn't exist as a word.I've done some digging and according to a couple of sites I trust, Arella is the feminine form of Arel which does, in fact, mean 'angel'. I'm perplexed, though, because the (transliterated) Hebrew word for angel is mal'ach. So, on one hand, you're correct in that it means 'angel' or 'messenger', but on the other hand, it means 'unclean' and 'uncircumcised'.I'll try to do some more digging.Mashka
