[Opinions] some more twinsets...
There's been a lot of discussions on twinsets here lately, and I suddenly remembered that in my high school there were 2 twins named Valeria and Valentina. The worse thing was that their surname also started with "Vale" and was very close to one of the names. On Big Brother UK this year there's apparently 2 identical twins named Amanda and Samantha, that' too close imo, especially for identical twins. A better twinset I know is Margherita (nn Tita) and Valentina, I think they flow nicely together and it's nice to combine a traditional old-fashioned name to one that in Italian is a bit more trendy and relatively new in use. Unfortunately I can't think of any male twinsets I've heard, good or bad. I think that while having themey twinsets in meaning (say, Spring and Winter) or sound is particularly bad since it deprives twins of their individuality, which is already a potential problem, especially with identical twins, I do think the two names have to flow nicely together and sound nice together, and this is more important than with ordinary sibsets because twins are usually likely to do more things together for longer, for instance being in the same class in school, sharing the same group of friends or attending the same university at the same time and maight be known around as"X and Y" at least until early adulthood (these are just examples based on twinsets I've known or heard about, I know it may not be the case for all). I particularly like the idea of a "hidden" theme in a twinset, such as 2 names with the same etymology, such as Deborah and Melissa. What do you think?

I agree with the whole subtle theme. I wouldn't go for Deborah and Melissa myself (why would you want to name your kid after a bee??) though.

In my grade, there are twins named Jazzmyn and Jazzlyn. Awful. I like when twin names have nothing to do with one another.

Margherita and Valentina are a lovely set.I agree with you about themes and similar names, but I don't think they have to especially go well with each other. It's true that they'll be "X and Y" more than the average sibset, but I still think you should go with names you love even if they're not the same style. The hidden etymology idea is cool, but they would still have to be names I love. I wouldn't sacrifice on that just to have the connection. Using your example, it would be cute to have the connection, but I dislike both names, so it wouldn't be worth it. I'd rather use two unconnected names I love. As a twin, I can tell you -- they'll have enough other "connections" that it probably won't matter.

I agree with you on all of that. I hate it when people are too themey, but it kind of annoys me when one is too out there and another is "normal" persay (like maybe Ursula and Emily). I love the whole hidden meaning thing, like maybe something like Soleil and Selene (not those particular names, but the meanings are so great and... opposite!).

Selene Diana and Soleil Lucina have been on my fave twinsets list for quite some time.:-)

I agree, twins names shouldn't sound alike or mean the same thing because they are two different people. I have a twin sister, our names sound nice together but they don't 'match': Ellen and Molly.

I agree with giving twins names that make them individuals. But I also think that a hidden theme can be cute. I know people who have done that with their sibsets and not just for twins. It helped them narrow down the names that they liked.

The Dreaded Anagram TwinsI hate anagram names for twins. It kills me. I know I'm robably alone on this, but geesh...

Would that be something along the lines of Amy and May, for instance? at least I agree it's pretty bad, any obvious theme is. I was rather think of subtler harmony between the 2 names.

I'm a twin and I know some other twinsets and none of them are very close.
My name is Caroline and my sister is Terése ("french theme") It could also have been Carolina and Teresa.
When we started school there was another twinset in our class, Joel and Jesper. Later on we went to school with these twinsets:
Per and Christina
Oscar and GustavPersonally I believe that twins' names don't have to "sound nice together" just because the twins do things togehter. That's just... I'm sorry...stupid. If I was having twins I would choose two names that I liked. I wouldn't care if they matched or not. (But normally they do because you have a certain naming style). In the end people will still talk about the "twins" and the two names will match each other because the persons behind the names match each other.
