Message: "Magnolia or Violet?"

[Opinions] Magnolia or Violet?

These are my top two names for a girl at the moment. However, I worry that Violet is getting too popular and that Magnolia is too over the top and unusual! So, I'm trying to drop those concerns and just concentrate on which name I love more regardless of popularity. What do you think of these names? Which would you choose? Thanks!

I like both

I do not think Magnolia is too weird. It's a good amount of unusual and special imo.

Violet is a bit more trendy, but still usuable imo.

I prefer Violet. Magnolia is a bit much for me, and I loathe the nickname Maggie.

Violet is one of my all time favorites! It's classic and beautiful. And no, I don't think it's too popular to use at all. It's a unique and charming name. A well polished antique! As for Magnolia, I don't like it one bit.

I like Magnolia better.

And it's got more nickname potential ( Mag(s), Maggie, Lia, Nolee, Nola, Nolia, etc)if the kid hates it, whereas Violet only has Vi.

I actually really like both of them - I'd probably go with Magnolia just because of the slight popularity advantage and the fact that it comes with a beautiful built in nickname (Maggie is a personal favorite).

They're both gorgeous names, though, and I don't think you can go wrong with either one of them.

Both :) Magnolia could be downsized for day use with Lia or Maggie and I adore Violet, pretty, vintage, and not yet too popular (it's day is coming again, though).

Both are stunning, but if you know a lot of Violet's then I would go for Magnolia (which has some darling nn's - Maggie, Nola, Lia) if she didn't like the name. Though I wouldn't complain at either!

I would choose Violet because Magnolia is too similar to some other names I like better like Magdalena. Personally I'm not a fan of either, though Violet is quite cute on a little girl.

both are neat, I like Magnolia because it lends itself so easily to the nn Maggie. I would be more likely to use Violet myself though. I don't really consider a name too popular if it hasn't been in the top 100 in 80 years. I think we just talk about it more often on here. Also, Magnolia is not over the top. Unusual, yes, but not too out there.

I like the looks of Magnolia. I would choose Violet thought since I like it more. However, I'd say go with Magnolia it's more refreshing.
