Help[Opinions] WDYTO Tristan?
I really like the name Tristan. However, I mentioned it to my mom and she looked at me like I was on crack. So, what do you think.
I particularly like Tristan James, Tristan Wyatt, Tristan Christopher, and Tristan William.

I think Tristan is cute. I like Tristan James the best. I don't like Tristan Christopher, because of the similar sounding in the beginning....TRIS and ChRIS.

I don't like it at all. :/ Unfortunately, there was a girl in middle school who bullied me (yes, a girl) whose name was Tristan. So not only does it sound feminine to me (I've never met another Tristan, male or female), I have a horrible association with it. Plus, it's very trendy-sounding to me.

I don't like it because it makes me think of the words for sad in French and Spanish. I don't like it because it's awfully trendy and popular. I'm sure your mom is not aware of that. A boy named Tristan born these days would not have problems fitting in at all.

My favourite would be Tristan James, and Tristan Wyatt.
Christopher and William are great names but not for a mn with this name for me. It's Like Tristan is too good for these names... or maybe the other way around? They just don't fit well for me.
And the crack thing well that happens to me a lot.
Like the other day my boyfriend and I were talking about names we liked and I said if I had a boy and a girl I'd name them Nevena Asya and Klaus Eran, and he too looked at me like I was on crack. also whenever I tell people what I'll name my kids I get looked at like I'm on crack... doesn't make me feel very good... but oh well I'd name them that annyway.

I like it but I'm kind of embarrassed about liking it. It's pretty wimpy, and it does remind me a lot of the french and spanish word "triste" which means sad. And it ends with -n, like about 90% of boys' names nowadays. Nevertheless, I like it a lot. I can't explain it.
All of your combos are a little plain for my taste. Tristan William is my favorite, closely followed by Tristan James. Tristan Christopher is too heavy on the emphasized RIST sound, and Wyatt sounds silly next to Tristan IMO.

The name means sad... like from the latin word(tristis) for sad.
I'm not arguing or anything but can you explain to me why you think it's wimpy sounding. I've always been interested in why people have certain reactions to names and why other people have different ones.

Well, the -an ending makes it seem wimpy to me. It's just a really weak syllable imo, because it's so common and seen on kids of such wimpy suburban white parents trying to be cute. (A little blunt, but, well, you asked :).) And part of it is how trist means sad. And short i isn't a very strong vowel in the first place. A name where the only vowels are short i and a schwa can't help but sound wimpy to me.

A I see and I much prefer bluntness to being um... not blunt?( can't seem to think of the opposite of that word...
I'm a blunt person myself and I think it's better to be blunt than try and save people from getting hurt/make it sound better than it really is/ etc. etc.

I like Tristan too. I was watching "King Arthur" earlier today and asked my dh what he thought of the name. He made a face and said it reminded him of Triscut (sp?) crackers. I suppose it reminds me of that too but I don't care; I like Tristan very much. ;-)

I like Tristan, particularly as an alternative to Christian, which I like but find unusable because I'm agnostic/atheist (depending on my mood :-p). And just to cover all bases, I abhor Tristan on a girl.

I love Tristan but my dh has the exact same look on his face as your mom.
My fave combos are Tristan David, Tristan Samuel and Tristan Robert. Out of your combos, I like Tristan Wyatt and Tristan William. For some reason James and Christopher aren't flowing right in my ears dispite the fact that they flow with just about every other name, lol.

Ever since watching King Arthur about 2 years ago, I've loved it. Some people say it's too feminine, but I really, wholeheartedly disagree. My sister even says that if I ever name a kid Tristan, she'll call him "Triscuit". Oh, well... It's stil lcompletely handsome and lovely. My favorite combos are Tristan Reed & Tristan Zane. :D
