Help[Opinions] Nickname I'd never heard...
So I really like the name Margaret, but I've never been able to decide on which nickname I like best. I like Meg / Meggie, Greta, and Margo. And Maggie's nice but that's most common I think. Anyway, the other day I heard of someone who went by Margie (pn Mar-ghee, not Mar-jee). I think I kind of like it. Wdyt?
Also, just out of curiousity, what middle names do you like with Margaret?

I agree with Array: Margie with a hard "g" doesn't appeal to me, but I like it pronounced mar-jee.
I think Greta is a wonderful nn for Margaret! I also like Meg and Margo (though I prefer the spelling Margot).

comes to mind. She's an actress; currently on CSI, I think. She prn her name (which is derived from Mary Margaret) with a hard G. I really don't think it's very nice-sounding at all, though I understand the thought behind it. After all, the name's not Marjeret, is it?

I have an aunt, Margaret Elizabeth, who goes by Margie (MAR - ghee). I love the name on her, but I can't see that nickname on a little girl. I love Maggie and I don't think Margaret is too long to use the full name.
For middle names, I love Elizabeth and Isabelle. They are a bit long, so if you wanted something shorter, Jane, Eileen and Diane are all nice.

I've never heard that one but I do know that Marg Heldenburg (sp?) of CSI pronounces her first name with a hard 'g' not as 'marj'.

Margie said that way is really nice. The great thing about Margaret is there are so many nns, you could call her Greta one day and Meggie the next, or one friend can call her something different to another friend. This is what my friend loves about her name Elizabeth.
My combo is Selena Margaret, so Margaret Selena?

I like Margaret Eleanor, but I want to use Eleanor as a first name. In fact Margaret is (at this point) coming second or third or maybe even fourth. I don't want to have four girls though, but I suppose it's possible. I also like Catherine, but not with Margaret. It goes with Ginevra for me. That's funny though, Margaret Frances is the combo I currently have. Frances was my dad's mom's middle name and her grandmother's middle name too I think. Thanks for the suggestions!

I knew a Marghee in hs (that's how she spelled it, anyway). I think it makes more sense as a nn for Margaret. I mean, there's not a soft g in Margaret - where'd Margie come from? ;o)
My favorite Margaret nns are Meg, Meggie, Megan, Margot & Greta.
I like Margaret Belrose, of course, since that was DH's g-ma's name. ;o) Other than that, I really like Alice, Ellen and Faye.

Yeah, I don't know where half the nicknames come from for some names. Margie I sort of understand because if you saw that name, (not knowing it was associated with Margaret), that's how it would be pronounced (at least to me). But Peggy? Where did that come from. That's actually my mom's name and people ask her if it's short for Margaret, but it's not in her case. Margaret Alice sounds nice. I don't know how much I like Alice, but I like Alison. Maybe Margaret Alison? Thanks for your suggestions! :)
