[Opinions] Ayla?
I really love both the name and the meaning, but want to know your opinions on pronounciations. Would you pronounce it "EYE-la" or "A-la" (long A sound). Personally, I prefer the first pronounciation, but wdyt?

I say it EYE-la. I have a friend whose mother is Turkish and her name is Ayla (EYE-la); that being the only person I've met with the name plus the instinct of how I want to say it anyway makes EYE-la my first reaction and my preference.

I pronounce it "A la" (with the long A sound), so I definitely prefer it this way. I think it's a nice name...probably not something I'd use personally, but one that I'd like seeing on someone else's daughter.

I'd definately say IE-lah: (I think that's the EYE-la one then), because I'd assume it's Turkish and that's the Turkish pron.. I like the name, it's been one of my favs for a while.

Personally I pronounce Ayla as "AY-lah" (probably your "A-la") because that's how a girl I knew called Ayla pronounced it.

I pronounce it AY-la (long A)I associate it with scantily dressed dumb blonde cave girls, as the main character in The Clan of the Cave Bear was named Ayla.

It personally looks like Kayla without the "K" to me, so I instinctively say long A + lah. But I can see it being pronounced both ways (though I definitely prefer spelling EYE-lah as Isla ;b). As a name, I realize it's legit but it just seems/looks made-up and trendy so I have a hard time getting past that.
