[Opinions] Ave?
WDYTO Ave (ah-vay)? I like the name Ava, but it is becoming so popular. (Of course, my first daughter will have some of the MOST popular names...but I've loved the combo too long to change it.) Earlier today, for some unknown reason, I started singing Danny Boy and Ave Maria in my head. I thought it might be a nice alternative to Ava. WDYT?

I really like Ave.
I adore Ava, but as you said, the popularity puts me off. But Ave is just as gorgeous and less trendy.

It has a nice sound to it but I believe it is the spanish word for bird. I still think it's pretty though.

It is alright, although it reminds me of the shorthand for Avenue. Also I was taught classical Latin in school and in that Ave is prn., Ah-way so that would be my second intuition after Ahve. I think i would prefer it as a nn for Aveline.
i really like it. i once met a little girl named Ave, and i thought it was beautiful. i think it's a wonderful alternative to the overdone Ava.
I had Ave Maria stuck in my head too!
I was looking up all sorts of versions on youtube.
Personally, I think that Ave would be a little strange for a name. For starters, it means 'Hail'. Either the child is to be worshipped or they bring bad weather. : p Second, I think that people would mispronounce it with one syllable way too often. (rhyming it with Abe)
Have you considered something like Eve or Eva? Or possibly a version in another language, like Aoife?

I didn't even think of Ave Maria until now!
Ave is a lovely name. It's my brother's mom's name and it is truly pretty and sweet. Ava IS really popular and since the two sound and are pretty similar in spelling, it's close to Ava. It's also a strong, feminine and respectable name your daughter would be proud to bear.

How does she prn. Ave?
In the user-submitted name, Ave is prn. differently than what I am thinking.

Like Aw-vey.
On an unrelated note:
Oh wow I just read your posting name for the first time. I adore the name Scholastica! Is that a name you have/like? or does it mean something different for you?

Scholastica Stewart was the name of a character in a book I was writing when I created my account. I just chose it because she was the most recent character I had written. Her back story is that she was named Erin and since she was a bit of a gothic, edgy person, she legally changed her name to Scholastica.
I still prefer Ava. Ave isn't bad but probably not for me.
