[Opinions] Salem
I recently had someone on myspace message me. His name was Elmo and he has a young son named Salem. WDYT? Personally, Salem reminds me of Witch trials and murders.

I like Salem for a girl
I actually really like this name. There would definately be the witch trial assosciation, but I still like the sound and look of the name, and it seems sort of dark and mysterious. I think it would probably be better on a girl though; for some reason, I think a girl could pull it off better than a boy.
I think of witch trials... Good name for a cat, though!

Me too. An unfortunate name. I know that it comes from "Jerusalem", that it's an important historical city and, having been there, a very pretty spot, but the main association everyone's going to have is the Witches' Trial.
I don't like Salem. As you said, I think of mob rule and forced "confessions" and accusations, which is really unpleasant. Also, it has a very un-namey sound. Just very ugly. I don't like any place names, excluding the ones that are actually real names (Georgia, Carolina, Virginia, Adelaide...)

If you don't mind me asking, to what is the quote in your signature referring?
I don't mind at all! It's just something a friend of mine (Alex, obviously) said in reference to another friend. (Said other friend had...I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say he had inserted his foot far into his mouth. Since my friends are scattered across North America, we have some interesting and highly confusing online drama.) I was very amused by the moustache bit.
I love it [m]
I love it as a nn for Jerusalem for a girl. I think of Jerusalem, and the black cat, as well as peace when I think of Salem. I don't think of the witch trials at all. I think of places named Salem as well.
