Why not just use Kelly? Just wondering.

Well, I always plan on using Kellie as the mn of my first daughter. But I feel it's good to have a male back-up plan to be able to honour my friend. But I just am not inclined to use Kelly on a boy. It would feel wrong spelling it that was too as I know a number of Kellys with both spellings (so I'd prefer Kellie spelling if I did use Kelly). Plus Kelly is a family surname. I don't really want to use family surnames as first names because I have a close extended family. Plus I've never really liked Kelly/Kellie, it just means too much to me in the honour of this particular person. On the other hand, Kellen is not Kellie as such, so I don't have to worry about a y/ie difference. And Kell was a nn she always went by. And to step up before a 'why not call him Kell then' question... It feels insubstantial to me. I also like meaning and connectedness behind names. That knocked Kellen out because I can't seem to connect "swamp" to something meaningful to me.I hope I make sense. I'm so tired. Naming concerns are so complicated.
