[Opinions] Names for a Russian Blue
My boyfriend has just gotten a kitten, and wanted to give him a Russian name. He chose Sergei, which is too close to my ex-boyfriend's name, Serge. And Serge isn't the type of person I'd want to name a cat after. So: What would you name it? Picture of a Russian Blue: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_BlueIt needs to be two syllables or less, so the cat can respond to it. Three syllables are okay if they have a distinct, clipped sound. IE Jemima, but not Lilia. So: Name the cat. :-D

We've had Russian blues beforeSofka and Irina respectively. My mum used to breed them years back and I think her stud was called Boris. The name we were most tempted to use if we had got a boy was Rasputin.

You already have a ton of great suggestions but I'll throw in a few more just 'cause. ;) BTW, I'm joining in to say please post pics when you can. I missed the little-kitten days with both of mine (got them at 3 and 4 months old) and I spent some time with two tiny ones the other day. TOO sweet. Leonid

Ruslan was my first thought
others:
Arkadi (3-syl, but I think it has a 'clipped sound')
Fyodor
Igor
Lev
Milan
Pyotr
Roman
Sasha (although I heard that you shouldn't put the SH sound in a name for cats..)
Taras
Vanya
Vladimir "Vlad"
Stanislav "Stas"
Spyridon "Spyro"

Tevye is my immediate thought. But I'm in a mood for musicals. :DArray

lol, now I"m going to have a ton of names to present. However, he's a musical fan as well and I suspect that Tevye will be chosen.

If you want to keep with the Russian theme, I'd suggest:Boris :-D My favorite.
Dima
Fedor
Filat
Ivan
Lev, if you're willing to go monosyllabic; it is appropriate, after all.
Miron
Motya
Rurik
Timur; comes with an interesting namesake.
Viktor
Maksim
PavelOr other Slavic names:Radek / Radko
Havel
Kamil
Marek
Filip
Penko
Valko
Some of them are completely stereotypical, but since it's a cat, there's not much of a point in being subtle. :-P

LOL - I suggested Boris right away.Mainly because of you :-) It was too Rocky/Bullwinkle for him.I'll suggest
Mirko (my own suggestion)
Penko
Ivan
Lev - and it is appropriate.
Timur
Fedor
Pavel - which would be hilarious. :-D

MirkoI like Mirko as well. I'm into -ko endings. Well, at least for this specific naming situation I'm into -ko endings. Can't say they're going to suddenly shoot up my personal human naming charts. My own pets are Eustace, Hermia, and Chet--pet names have fewer boundaries. :-)A friend of mine has a male cat named Ariel, though I never remember to ask him if the meaning was intentional.
