The root rA is a very old root in Sanskrit, going back to the Rg vedic period, and means to give or bestow, and has given rise to many words for wealth and the divine. In particular rA/rai means property, wealth, or riches, and revat means wealth, opulent, or prosperous; both of these are attested in the Rgveda, as is the form raivata, literally meaning descended from a wealthy family.revanta and raivata are alternate forms of the name of the fifth manu (manu is related to the English word man, and is a mythological concept for time periods and characters, rough translation would be a `patriarch') of the present kalpa (etymologically related to English help and the root meaning to put in order, this is a mythological unit of time denoting the period after which the world is destroyed and recreated: its length of 4.32 billion years turns out to be roughly the current age of the earth). revanta, which appears in the post vedic times, was considered the son of sUrya (the sun) and sanjna (both n's palatal, means consciousness, literally common knowledge) and the chief of the guhyakas (meaning related to hidden), a class of 11 demigods who along with the yakSas (probably related to speed and meaning ghosts and beings of darkness) are attendants of kubera (etymology unclear, originally evil spirits of darkness, but god of wealth in the period being described) and guardians of his treasure.revanth is modern south Indian transcription of revanta and kumar is similarly the modern transcription of kumAra (etymology unclear, related either to the concept of easily dying, or to the concept of desired) meaning a child, used in compounds to denote son of.
