I like it probably since it's my sister's name. I think personally don't really like Liss, Lissa, or Missy as nicknames, but I think it's a nice name.

I love Melissa; very pretty name. In fact, I had it on my list when I was pregnant last year. I think it should be given to more babies! I'd much rather hear of a Melissa than another Ava or Olivia.

Nice to hear it's getting used on a baby today, I like it.

I think it's nice enough, but I've met so many Melissas that it feels a little tired to me. Melody and Melanie are my Mel- names of choice.

I find it really pretty, the only problem I have with it is that it 's a bit stereotypically 1980-ish (I gather it was super-common at the time).

I really like it and it's ties to Greek mythology.

I like it! Although it was quite popular during the 70s and 80s (where I came from), I still think that Melissa would be a great name for a girl these days.

I've always loved it, it's very pretty and ages well. Just so long ad the nn Missy is never uttered.

It's actually very pretty. But I'm old enough to remember the seventies, when it was extremely popular, so it will always seem overused and trite to me, even though it may not be used much nowadays. That's the problem with being given a popular, fashionable name. At some point everyone realizes that it IS popular, and then shy away from it. At that point it goes out of style. I have a name like that myself, popular at the time I was born, but now very out of style. Then people look at your name and think, "old-fashioned, typical post World War II, typical seventies," etc. and may dislike it just based upon that. Whenever I hear that someone doesn't like my name, ( actually, the only person IRL who has ever actually told me that is my mother-in-law, the old bat, but I've heard it on these boards) I always assume that that's the reason they don't, which may or may not be true. I think Melissa tends to fall into that category, along with Linda (40s and 50s) Jennifer (70s) and Ashley (80s). But in reality, it's really a very pretty name.

It's alright and better than a lot of names out there, but I don't find it wonderfully exciting.
