[Opinions] Thoughts on Roxanne
What are your thoughts on Roxanne? I'be been going back and forth between liking it and disliking it.
Also, are there any names with similar meanings you like better?

I think it's a kind of tacky name, and will forever be associated with the song "Roxanne."

Love Roxanne! The name gets a bad rap-probably from the Police song, but I know a young lady named Roxanne and she is very classy. It's very underused so any new Roxanne coming along would most likely be 'one of a kinds' among their peers.

I like the sound and look of it, it's cute. The only thing that bothers me about it is the song "Roxanne" by The Police. Not the best song really! Roxanna and just Roxie / Roxy are nice too.

I have a friend whose daughter is named Roxanne. My friend *firmly* resisted the child being nick-named Roxy, so she never was.

Well, I think the name is kind of tacky, but there aren't many Roxannes around today (where I am, anyway). It's a strong name, even if it isn't my style. The meanings BTN gives for Roxanne are "bright" and "star"... for 'star' there's always Astor, which I love, plus a bajillion others: http://www.behindthename.com/php/search.php?nmd=md&terms=starHere's the names which mean "bright":

Roxanne is one of those few names that I liked a lot more once I finally learned about its origin. I don't know where I thought it came from in the first place, but knowing that it's grounded in a longer history than being some recent thing made it appeal to me more. It's probably not going to be a favorite of mind any time soon but the more I turn it over and meet people with it, the better I can swallow it.
