It reminds me of the character from Fahrenheit 451. It's been somewhat tainted for me a familial association, but it is otherwise a very lovely name.
To V.
Ha. We read that book earlier this year for my honors English class. I recall having to disect every little detail of that book.
I think that once you do that the book loses value. You can't enjoy it quite so much because you'll remember discussions you had in class about Guy Montag or some other character. And themes never made sense to me. It always seems that it should be what the reader thinks and not what the teacher says.
I still can't bear to read the books we did last year. To Kill a Mockingbird was my favorite book until we went over the themes: Growing up, Racism, and Curiosity. And for that matter Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express (also published as Murder in the Calais Coach). Both good books, but butchered by Mrs. Carroll!

It's ok. I think I might prefer Clarissa.
Pretty. Better than the spelling Clarisse (I prononce both klah-rees).
Clarice is nice, but I've always wanted to say it like "cla-rice", so I prefer the spelling Clarisse.
It's very classy and under appreciated IMO.
I've never seen Silence of the lambs (and I don't intend to either!) but the two Clarice's (and Clarisse's) I've known didn't get much hassle from it, so I wouldn't let it bother you too much.

I love it! I actually posted a thread like this a few weeks ago, but most of the responses were that they didn't like it because of Silence of the Lambs :( It's always so sad when a book or movie "ruins" a perfectly beautiful name. I still like it though.
pretty name
Even though some people might think of Silence of the Lambs, I still think Clarice is a great name. It's very pretty.
I wasn't aware of that association :o(. I don't watch those kind of movies. Oh well...
I love Clarisse. The -ice spelling does less for me.
