I knew it started with a P. I remember that much from The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver.
Adah (referred to herself as Ada) was the one obsessed with palindromes. She became an atheist at the age of 6 because her Sunday school teacher made her kneel in rice for an hour because she questioned location having anything to do with being saved. (Her father was a minister so being an atheist....not good.) Adah switched around "Oh God, God's Love" to "Evol's Dog, Dog ho."
Even though half her brain was shrunken, Adah was my favorite character. She was the most interesting of all the Price women.
