[Opinions] WDYTO Reality?
I met a woman once who told me that her baby daughter's name was Reality. She was a single mother, with no emotional support from the father, and she said that the reality of her situation didn't hit her until she actually saw the baby. So she named her Reality. Really. Do you think that was a rather cruel thing to do to the child, as she would most likely want an explanation for her name as she grew up? Also, phonetically speaking, what do you think of Reality as a name?

Oh, God. That is one of the worst names I've heard in a long time.

The name is kind of...harsh (for lack of a better word). I don't really like it. And the woman's story reminds me of the couple earlier this year who, when they first saw their baby during a sonogram, were inspired to name him "4Real".

I think it's fine it has meaning behind the name even better. I wouldn't use it I don't like the look or sound.

With the last name "Bites"? Would fit the storyReality is a terrible, terrible name. I mean, I already loathe Fantasy as a name, but at least it's associated with something dreamy and positive, instead of being directly linked with something the mother herself saw as an unhappy situation.

Horrible. She might as well have named the kid Burden or Trouble or Expense. Just stupid.

Uurgh, reminds me of the parents who wanted to name their kid 4real because when they'd seen the echography they realized they were having a baby "for real", except that here the association is more negative.
and yes, the word "reality" sounds harsh and is not particularly euphonic.

Poor kid, of course. At least Reality reminds (me) of many virtue names like Verity, Trinity, Destiny, Patience, Thankful, Hope, Mercy and Honour, so I hope, that the girl wouldn't get teased too much.

Hm, but Reality is a state, not a virtue. I don't think she'd fit in with the virtue names at all (not that there are that many of them out there to begin with at the moment)... as for teasing, well, in reality (no pun intended), children find every reason imaginable (and unimaginable) to tease other children so I don't think that's an issue (unless the name was something like 'Poopy' which then would be cruel). I'm starting to ramble :PI agree with the others who say it's cruel because when the kid is older and wants to know the story it'll sound like the mother didn't want her or it bitter towards her.Orally, I don't think Reality is pleasant at all. It's clunky and just not a fit word to bestow as a name imo.

Actually I just wanted to find some positive aspects of this poor name :DD. But maybe your're right, and Reality isn't a "virtue" "name", as I firstly thought. (I should think again)

Hopefully her other initials weren't T.V.
