Two years ago, Robert was called to fight in the war. The Kay’s received a letter that he had died. Their daughter Marianne, who had been very close to her father was so distressed she ran away from home. No one has seen her since. Walter and Betty have left school to become the breadwinners for the family now that their father is dead.
Dorathea got married last month to her darling husband, Frank. It was a small wedding, and he has since gone off to fight in the war, but he wanted to make sure he was married to the girl he loved, in case he never returns.
Elsa has adopted another baby child, she felt it her patriotic duty since the child father was in the same regiment as Robert before he died.
