What do you think? It's one of my all-time favourites but I'm not sure if maybe it is too pretentious and a bit clunky. Still, I'm madly in love with it and panic about my future partner not liking it! I'm especially fond of the nicknames Eva, Evan and Evie. Which is your favourite because I can never decide between them! Also, any middlenames that you think would suit would be much appreciated. And yet another question(!) do you know anybody with this name?

I think it's pretty said with a -leen ending. eh-VAN-jeh-line sounds really weird to me and eh-VAN-jeh-lynn sounds tryndeigh. I don't love it (I prefer Eve and Eva) but I do like it. Eva and Evie are adorable nicknames but Evan is totally masculine to me, even as a nickname. What about using Eve for a nickname? I don't know anyone named Evangeline.

I adore Evangeline as well and I've always liked the nn Evie the best.

I think it's gorgeous. I wouldn't use it because it's very, er, evangelical, and I also live in the U.S., where this just happened:

I much prefer it prnounced -leen instead of -lynn or -line. I dislike Eva and Evan--don't know why for Eva, Evan because it's a boys' name and seems really contrived to me. But I think Evangeline "Evie" is adorable and also gorgeous and sophisticated. I also like Angelina and Angelica a lot, but Evangelina is too much for me.

Someone's also probably mentioned Evangeline Belrose as Cambria's old combo before she actually got pregnant-- her baby is now Evangelynn Jeanne-Elyse. But I've always liked Evangeline Belrose a lot.

It used to be my favourite name until Sibylla came along :P
I myself pronounced it ee-van-he-leen, with the j sounding like an h. It's the spanish way of pronouncing j's and makes the name flow better for mne, doesn't sound ad 'clunky.'

reminds me of evangelist or evangelical it's very religious sounding to me. I wouldn't use just because I don't like the "evan" part it it's pretty though!

Evangeline I haven't warmed to though I do prefer the -leen ending, with -lyn second and I don't like -line at all. I do love Eva and Evie though, Evan however is too masculine for me though much prefer Evan-as-a-nn on a girl rathar than just plain Evan-on-a-girl.

Oooh, pretty names! You and Justina clearly have similar taste (she also suggested Pearl).
Asides from that Evangeline Joy is beautiful and although I'm not a major fan of Celeste, it works perfectly as a middlename for Evangeline.

There is a German girl in my class called Denise so it has good connotations for me.
I agree with Persephone. After reading it in the first part of a trilogy (Malorie Blackman's 'Noughts and Crosses') I struggled to pronounce it and then decided it was a stupid name. However, my liking for it has grown considerably since then!

I think Evangeline is gorgeous - though the relation to the word evangelical doesn't suit my taste. I do not know anyone with this name.

I have to agree that I don't particularly like the meaning (no human can be an angel), it's more the sound that I like.

I love Evangeline, but only if the last syllable is pronounced like the word "line" (rather than like "lyn" or "leen"). That's how I first ran into the name, and it sounds wonderfully, romantically Southern to me. I hear it and think of the short story "The Osage Orange Tree" by William Stafford. It's a really good one, if rather sad, and definitely worth looking into.
I prefer the name without a nickname, but if she must have one, my preference is to Evey (prn. the same as Evie, but with better associations for me).

Never heard of the story, but will have to look it up sometime.

Oooh goody!
I've been looking for something nice and short to read. As a reward for good exam results and good behavious my school gave me a book voucher in the summmer and I bought 'War and Peace' and promised myself I'd make a start on it during my Christmas holiday, of which today is the first day! A short story would make a lovely change.
