I've just been thinking about these two. The 'essa' is sounding very pretty to me right now. What do you think of Odessa and Nessa? Any combo suggestions? Do you think Nessa would work as a nickname for Esther (in the Nell/Noll/Ned style)? I think I prefer it as a full name but the idea is interesting.

Odessa is just a city in Russia (or is it Ukraine these days?) for me. Nessa I could tollerate as a nickname. Eshter, which is lovely btw, is a bit of a stretch. Maybe Ines or Inessa could work?
I must say personally I'm not crazy about the "essa" sound myself, it sounds harsh.

Hmm. I know it's a city (yeah, it's the Ukraine these days) but I generally think of the name and the city totally separate. Does it just sound like a place name? Hmm. That was my worry with Odessa.

Inés nn Nessa is a really good idea. I like it.

I'm currently loving the -essa sound also. I've been calling Cecily Cessa lately.

I really like Odessa. Nessa I prefer as a nn, it just doesn't sound complete. It'd work for Esther, but I love it for Agnes.

I love the name Odessa I like the nn Dessa or Dessie though.
Nessa could be a nn for Janessa although I think Nessa is nice on it's own. name with nn Essie:
Estelle
Estella
Esme
Esmeralda
Espe esp-eh Basque name "hope"
Hester
Esta Italian name "from the east"
Esmaria

I do think I like Nessa on it's own best of all.

Esta and Hester are lovely! Espe is interesting- it reminds me of my friend's name Espi (which was short for Esperanza). Estelle is also quite pretty, though I prefer the similar-sounding Stella.

Dessa and Dessie are adorable nicknames for Odessa.

Odessa is beautiful. I agree that the "essa" sound is nice, but I'm usually not a fan of names with "essa" in it...hmm.

Agnessa (though it doesn't have the same exact sounds you're going for)

Thanks! I do like Tessa, and like Tess even better, but only as a nn for Theresa. I like Jess (nn for Jessica) but don't like Jessa.

Agnessa is a beautiful name but it's hard for me to say.

I like Agnes or Agnessa nn Nessa. On its own it seems a bit too loch ness to me. I think Esther nn Nessa is plausible, but I wuldn't use it as such.

Odessa is beautiful, and I agree that the essa sound is lovely.

Agnessa is lovely but isn't it pronounced ag-NYE-sah, not ag-NEH-sah? I like the idea of Agnes nn Nessa! I wouldn't have thought of that, and it's quite nice. Hadn't thought of the loch ness monster either, so thanks for pointing that out.

The "NYE" part is pronounced like "yeh" with a "n" in front of it.
