I really do like it but I just could never bring myself to use it.
Ginger is horrible, I agree. But I don't think that it's a typical nn for Virginia. Ginnie would come to mind before Ginger would. I like it with-out a nn, being as a don't like any of them.
You shouldn't forget it, I know a 9-year-old or so who goes by Virginia, no nns. It suprised me at first, but after a while I really started to like the name.
