I love Katherine, especially because it is a family name for me. It is a name I have considered using as a middle name. Catherine is also a family spelling for me, so I like that too. I still prefer Katherine because it preserves the original Greek K and also because the nicknames look more aesthetically pleasing with a K. I like Kate, Katie, and Kat in no particular order. I worked with a Katherine a couple years younger than me who went by Kat. Kitty is ok, but I think it seems a bit dated to use as a nickname.
