[Opinions] Should this be the nickname??
So, in one of my earlier posts I mentioned how I love the name Ellie...specifically because I am a huge fan of Jurassic Park and have been since it came out and I want to name one of my children (in the future) after one of the characters!!....but...I have had people tell me that Ellie should be the nickname and I should use a similar longer version like....Elise or something....WDYT???...give me some possible alternative names where Ellie could be the nickname!! Thanks!!

No, I don't think Ellie should be only a nickname, but maybe it's because I live in a country where "nicknamey" names are pretty popular, and I hate overly formal names. I know also two girls named Elli, the Finnish variant of Ellie, so I can see it well as a full name. :)For any nickname altrenatives, I would try search *el*, "feminine names", "find only English names". :)

Or:
El*, feminine, "find English names only"

The same search as above, but not only English names:

I know an Ellen nn'd Ellie. I think it's a good choice b/c it's classic and not a typical 'Ellie' name.

I agree, Ellie is a nickname, but I think of Ella as a full name, so you can always use that and it's very close to Ellie, which you can use as a nn.

In the UK Ellie is a very popular whole name for baby girls.(see popularity charts on BtN for England and Wales.
It could be short for :
Elaina
Elaine
Eleanor
Elena
Eliana
Elisa
Elise
Elisha
Eliza
Elizabeth
Ellen
Elvira
Helen
Helena
or any name beginning with El !

YesI think that Ellie definitely needs a formal name. It sounds very youthful to me, and it's incredibly popular by itself right now.My favorite El- name is Eleanor, although I also think that Elizabeth and Ellen are nice. There's also Eloise, Elise, and Ella. You could also go the opposite route and pick names that end with -elle, like Danielle, Michelle, Gabrielle, Janelle, Adelle, Arielle, or Noelle. There's also Isabelle, but that's really popular too. Also, I agree that Jurassic Park is amazing. :)

I think Ellie can stand on its own, but it does better as a nn witha more grown-up name to fall back on. Also, Ellie is extremely trendy right now as a full name and a nn, so a more formal name will probably be appreicated.
My favorite ell name is Ellen. I would really like to meet a little Ellen, it would make a nice change from all the Elizabeths and Ellas and Eleanors. Also, you might consider Elena or Elaine, though their e's are long e's rather than short.

Ellie is a great name as a nickname or a full name. It works as nickname for Eleanor, Ellen, or I guess Ella. Either way, Ellie is great although I perfer Eleanor and Ellen but that is just my opinion because Ellie does work.I forgot about Elizabeth which I love but Elizabeth has so many choices for nicknames, so instead of Ellie I girl would probably now go by Liz or Lizzie.
